There's this trend of building products in public that I've been observing for a while now, and I think it's one of the healthiest things happening in tech right now.
Building in public means you share your journey, metrics, failures, and wins openly while you're building your product. No hiding behind press releases or polished launch announcements.
The arguments against it usually sound like "competitors will steal your ideas" or "it's unprofessional to show your struggles". Both of these are nonsense.
If your competitive advantage is just having an idea, you don't have a competitive advantage. Execution is what matters. And sharing your struggles? That's the most professional thing you can do. It shows you're human and you're learning.
The benefits are huge. You build trust with your audience before you even have a product. You get feedback early when it actually matters. You create accountability for yourself to keep shipping.
Plus, documenting your journey means you're creating content that helps others. Every problem you solve publicly is one less problem someone else has to solve in isolation.
I've started doing this more with my own projects, and it's been liberating. No more pretending everything is perfect. Just shipping, learning, and sharing.
If you're building something, consider doing it publicly. Future you will thank present you.
